Nice find. If I remember correctly that isn't actually Dan Aykroyd, correct? I can't remember who it is. Anyone wanna chime in with whose under the makeup? Do we have a picture of what the person really looks like? I love GB2 behind the scenes pics. Especially from the finale since it was such a chaotic ever changing sequence. Hopefully more pictures like this can be found.

Vigo's final form is super creepy. When his face does all that weird twisting and warping? Oh my god. As a kid? Shit, even as an adult that creeps me out. Plus the sounds he makes?

Ivan really understood how to make mood and atmosphere work in these films. The subtle gusts of wind, even indoors, which blow the hair of the GB's, mixed with the sounds and the music? He just nailed it. Ivan doesn't get enough credit for that. These movies are just hilarious. They are also interesting mysteries, horror films and action movies. Imagine juggling all those balls and making any sort of coherent film out of those elements would seem impossible. Hell even Spielberg couldn't get the mix right. Check out his comedy/action/war film "1941"(which has coincidentally Dan Aykroyd in it). It's a mess. I like it, most don't mind you, but it's a mess of tone and execution. But Ivan Reitman did it twice. Once it was a classic masterpiece of comedy(Ghostbusters), the 2nd is an underrated gem that still doesn't get its due(Ghostbusters 2).

In addition to playing demon Vigo and possessed Ray, Howie was also the 'gory Wampa' for the Special Edition version of the Empire Strikes Back, which came out in 1997.

An article on his career at ILM: https://starwars.fandom.com/wiki/Howie_Weed

There's a great story he told in an issue of Star Wars Insider magazine about the prank that his coworkers played, hiding a stinky sardine inside the Wampa mask just before the production team came in to see Howie demonstrate the costume.

And there's a b/w pic of Weed in the makeup chair on p. 44 of the Cinefex article about GB2. The photo caption and additional text about Weed playing the two prosthetic characters can be found on p. 45.

The pic of Howie that is on the GB Wiki is actually this pic from 2007.

Here's a slightly more recent pic of Howie from his Twitter account. He joined in 2010.

Thanks. Yeah I saw all those same pictures when I did a google image search for him. It looks like he's moved over to CGI work now. He has demo reel on Vimeo releases in 2018 that has work from various recent blockbusters

I wish we could maybe get him involved in a Q&A or something on this site. Get into the nitty gritty on his GB2 work. What do you folks think? I'm not on Twitter so would anyone here be comfortable with extending the invitation?
