Darthbuster's Ecto - 1A Build

Hi Guys,

I've decided to enter the contest. i love the look of this car and have been hoping to do it modeling justice for some time. i purchased it this kit way back when it was originally issued, circa 1989 ? I have had to strip off the paint because I held the spray can too close and there were drips. I've restarted it and decided to build it better than before. I just want to say ahead of time, sorry for not being able to answer everyone's questions on how I did something or the parts I've used. I just don't have the time to answer all questions I'm swamped with work this month.

I'm hoping to get the links to the pictures figured out so I can post some pics.

Thanks Zombierepellent. I think i figured out photobucket. I'm on some other modeling forums as Darthsideous hence the long photobucket name. Also can't afford a new camera so hopefully the pics turn out ok.

I decided to make 1/25 scale ghostbusters from my trusty spare parts tub. Here's what i came up with.

Ray and Peter:

Better shot of Ray:

Egon and Winston:

Figures placed in the roughed tub of the car with some old reading material from the first movie just to check the idea:

Peter and Winston:

Egon and Ray:
http://s1244.photobucket.com/albums/gg5 ... nt=163.jpg

Next i decided to make some ghost traps for our heros. Four ghost traps created from scratch:
http://i1244.photobucket.com/albums/gg5 ... an/224.jpg

Of course they can't have ghost traps and not proton packs. Four Proton Packs created from Scratch:

Detail of the Dashboard:

Next i decided I needed something to place the Proton Packs on. So here's the Proton Pack Stretcher scratch built:

Placed on the stretcher - Proton packs on the stretcher:

AND THE WINNER IS. . . . . Great stuff., hair color is a little off on some of them but the packs ,traps, and rack is amazing. .

Thanks for the compliment Skully. I found painting hair hard to do, but I'm still happy with the results. One of my links for Ray didn't work so I've tried linking it here:

In one of the previous posted pictures you'll notice that I also upgraded the computer keyboard from my spare parts tub as well.

Well that is it for now. I'm swamped with work, so I'll try hard to work on the car and get it done before the end of the month when the contest ends. updates will be very slow.

Thanks elsoldao7 that is quite a compliment! Hopefully I can get this done, I have lot's more instore for this kit. I've been waiting 23 yrs to build one of these things so the ideas are just bubbling up. Hopefully I can continue to inspire.

I picked up a repop that I found locally for comparison. The parts are identical to the original release, the decals have slightly more detail ... very slight.

I also painted up some MT-500 radios - I have four one is already attached to one of the figures.

Well, I’ve managed to plug away and get some more done. I wasn’t happy with the detailing of the side doors and rear door so I decided to cut them off and replace them with new doors. Still have to figure out what doors would be best. I have a few scrap cars in the tub so we’ll see what I can find. In the meantime I have flocked the entire carpeted area and painted the car cell phone, and rear mud matt, as well as, the rear area of the car interior.

http://i1244.photobucket.com/albums/gg5 ... an/210.jpg

After that I applied some additional decals to the interior. I even got some text from the movie (the part where Egon is looking up Vigo on the computer) and applied the decal to the screen

http://i1244.photobucket.com/albums/gg5 ... an/219.jpg
http://i1244.photobucket.com/albums/gg5 ... an/225.jpg
http://i1244.photobucket.com/albums/gg5 ... an/227.jpg

You’ll notice that I added some tube support pillars. I am still working on the interior and am constantly moving the tub in and out of the body to test fit thing so I have temporarily placed these in to prevent the figures from being damaged.

I glued in the figures, and the gurney with the packs. Peter was looking a little plain so I created a bag of Stay Puft marshmallows for him. I scratched the marshmallows & bag by chopping up plastic bits and using some plastic. The image is something I found online.

http://i1244.photobucket.com/albums/gg5 ... an/433.jpg
http://i1244.photobucket.com/albums/gg5 ... an/488.jpg

I’m really having fun with this. I’ll keep plugging away hopefully I’ll have something more to show soon.

Been plugging away and got some more detail work done. I also figured out how to auto adjust and crop my pictures so you can get a better look

Added some detail to the ghost traps, by adding a foot pedals and cables. I also created a1/25 Giga meter, and started work on a 1/25 Slime thrower

http://i1244.photobucket.com/albums/gg5 ... edited.jpg

I’m almost done the interior.

In the pictures you’ll see I have added a cab separator, and seatbelts. I have also done some work to the figures.

I was looking at the figures and decided that they needed more Ghostbuster detail. So I added elbow pads, belt gizmo thingy’s, and the leg hoses

I also added 1/25 Ecto goggles for Ray and a PKE meter for Egon.

http://i1244.photobucket.com/albums/gg5 ... ropped.jpg

http://i1244.photobucket.com/albums/gg5 ... pped-1.jpg

http://i1244.photobucket.com/albums/gg5 ... ropped.jpg

http://i1244.photobucket.com/albums/gg5 ... ropped.jpg

I decided to test fit the tub into the repop body before I added the cab separator to see how it would look. I'm still working on some detail pieces for the interior so I haven't glued the interior tub in yet, and will continue to test fit until the interior is done.

Oops forgot to mention I upgraded the CB radio and finally glued in the dashboard.

That’s it for now

I fail to see why Bob Saget, uncle Joey, Jessee and the Olsen twins would be in there.:lol: (For anyone too young to know the reference: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0092359/).

I have really enjoyed working on the details. I guess it's true when they say, "bustin makes you feel good!". :-D

How did you cut the doors out? Now it departs from just-a-build-up model!!

Thanks for taking a look, i just used a hobby knife to cut the doors out. I have seen many ecto-1a and ecto-1 builds, but I wanted to do something different and stretch my modeling skills.

i have never seen an ecto-1a or ecto-1 model for that matter with figures plus all the rest of the interior detail and hinged doors.

for those of you following this thread, I'm really swamped with my day job that pays for my hobbies until the end of the month, so I am not sure I'll be able to complete this by the deadline. Hopefully I can, but if I can't, I'll still finish the model at a later time.
