Discuss the Ghostbusters Comic from IDW, as well as the now defunct Ghostbusters: Legion series.
#4830159
Even though this comic book will not be shipping until June, I am defiantly going to pre-order it. The Real Ghostbusters to this very day is my all time favorite cartoon series and how I discovered the Ghostbusters franchise. Also I loved the story, "Mars Attacks The Real Ghostbusters" when I first read it, and I have no doubt that I will enjoy this story as well.

To be honest actually, the first variant is kinda 'meh' for me. The second one, the one evoking the classic horror comics published by EC from 40s and 50s is far more appealing.

Erik Burnham and Dan Schoening did a really informative interview with IWF. For Ghostbusters, they talked about Get Real, a bit of the TMNT crossover, a bit of the Board Game, and for fans of the ongoing - divulged a lot about the unused GB2 Winston back up. They also were given other fun stuff to talk about - what got them into comics, Dan's style, vacation, favorite horror films, what they're looking forward to, what they're watching, work routines, how awesome Luis Delgado is, and more on Dan's process. The interview is under an hour at about 54 minutes.
Issues With Friends Special 09

Understandably, if you are too busy and just want the skinny on the GB info - to paraphrase it

Get Real
*The story in the mini-series was not the original idea for the crossover.
*Erik pitched a 48 page annual initially but Tom Waltz asked Burnham to make it into a four issue mini-series.
*The story takes place during "Janine Melnitz, Ghostbuster" in between when Proteus zaps the Ghostbusters outside of Rockefeller and when Janine sees them trapped in one of Proteus' mirrors.
*In the mini-series, the Real Ghostbusters end up in the IDW universe and think they're back home. They enter the Firehouse, go upstairs and run into the other Ghostbusters team.
*The story revolves on Proteus capturing the Real Ghostbusters and returning to that point in the animated episode.
*To sync the episode with the comic further, there is a page that takes dialogue from the episode.
*The idea for the four regular covers connecting into one image came about independently at the same time. Burnham and Waltz were talking about doing connected covers then Schoening, unaware of their plans, also proposed the idea.

Get Real #3
*Joe Quinones from "Howard the Duck" will be doing the variant cover

July solicit is up.

Get Real #2
(W) Erik Burnham (A/CA) Dan Schoening

THEY'RE ALL REAL NOW! While the boys in gray meet the boys in brown, blue, green and tan, Proteus hunts through the multiverse for his quarry... and finds something Extreme. (Was that too subtle a hint?)

Item Code: MAY150365

In Shops: 7/15/2015
Holy crap. :P This is gonna be good.

I'm probably one of a few, but I hope Proteus runs into the junior team from Sanctum of Slime in Issue #3 (maybe he gets the right universe, but the wrong era).

WOW! Now I am defiantly going to pre-order this series, just like I did with the Ghostbusters/ Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles crossover.

Wow, I get the feeling that these 4 issues are going to cover all aspects of the franchise we have come to love. This is truly exciting and it further solidifies the awesomeness of this IDW team. ;). Erik, Dan, Luis thank you guys for pouring so much love and respect to all the issues you have put out. You guys are a real dream team. :):):)

I have a feeling Proteus' travels in #2 and probably #3 are what Erik added to make his initial annual pitch expand into a 4 issue mini and the meat of #1 and #4 is the pitch itself.

As Fritz brought up in the IDW forum - in theory:

#2 - Proteus is in the wrong universe, right time (i.e. he's still in the animated universe but the RGB are in the IDW verse and jumps ahead in time, meeting the Extreme Ghostbusters)

#3 - Proteus is in the right universe, wrong time (i.e. he's in the IDW verse but jumps ahead in time too far, meeting the SOS junior team).

The sad part is we already know the RGB loses and gets captured by Proteus. So we kinda know the ending. What does the prime team get out it, besides another interdimensional breach case and jokes about their other halves, is what intrigues me. Learning about the existence of a multiverse - wonder how Egon and Ray are going to love that one. heh.

But yeah, I'm going to try and enjoy the ride rather than focus on that. Definitely shaping up to be a major love letter to the fans.

I found that to be a little bit sad too. Then I had a talk with a buddy of mine and he reads comics more than I do. He came up with an interesting view when I told him this story involved a multiverse. I was a little bummed knowing that in the team up the guys were not going to defeat the big bad together. My friend pointed out to me true the upcoming issues taking events from the episode Janine Melnitz Ghostbuster, but what if there is way more to the story? If you remember the episode Proteous kind of does himself in. Also The Real Ghostbusters never mention running into there ulternate selves. So either the interdimentional travel that Proteus goes through to find The Real Ghostbusters takes enough out of him to make him careless, or there is a twist in the issue that reveals that the other team has a bigger part to play in his defeat. I trust that it will be a remarkable read. :):):)

As April is winding down, thought I'd post some updates. Dan has been tweeting some of his work on Issue #1 the past month. As you tell with the ongoing series' Volume 2 Issue #8 cover RI - Dan is really great at staying on model with the RGBs and Luis with sticking with the classic coloring. These should not disappoint:

On April 3, 2015, a work in progress RGB Peter Venkman

On April 7, 2015, a work in progress of RGB Egon.

As of April 9, 2015, Dan was 20% done with artwork for Issue #1.

On April 15, 2015, a work in progress of the Real Ghostbusters.

On April 23, 2015, a work in progress of RGB Winston being poked. No doubt its Egon Prime, imo.

Now that's some magic going on right there, makes you wonder what a re-launch of The Real Ghostbusters, with the same general character designs (and as much of the original cast as possible) with the best of today's animation would look like.

I really can't wait for this miniseries, it leaves me wishing Dan was given the opportunity more often to depict the RGBs. Both he and Tristan have really nailed how the guys looked. :)

I 2nd that notion. I'd honestly like to see straight to DVD movie done in the style of those DC animated flicks. If they could get Micheal Reeves or Richard Meuller to write that''d be even better.

Nah, man. They should aim for Straczynski. :)
I thought about that but I myself have always prefered those 2 to JMS.

Issue #3 solicit for August 19 is out
THE HOUND OF THE BUSTERS! Tired of hunting the Real Ghostbusters through infinite dimensions, Proteus puts a hellhound on the trail. Will the combined expertise of the eight 'Busters be enough to stop this cosmic canine conundrum?!
