A global supply chain crisis is affecting many industries, including publishing. I’ve been informed by Titan that books arrived at their US warehouse yesterday. Don't know how long it’ll take retailers (Amazon, bookstores, etc) to get their copies, but should be days not wks!

I re-watched the Egon's first scene more accurately.

He didn't tased himself. He prepped the PKE taser mode to stun the Terror Dog, but the arms springing out of the chair blocked his arms, preventing him to doing so.

I think he either had a cardiac arrests due to the chain of events or his old body wasn't able to sustain the struggle of being possessed.

Problem is the show doesn't find its voice until the 46th episode.

I wish they'd have done one real recording of the podcast with Logan and have the rest be "broken links" or similar.

Easily remedied, just start the podcast numbers at episode 49 or something. Podcast RSS feeds sometimes drop older episodes to reduce the feed size. :D

This could and should still be a thing. A short, 3 minute interview where we get some back story. A fun little home-release add-in.
This would be awesome.

I loved how Ray was his only subscriber lol.

Wait...do you think Podcast's podcast was how Ray started giving more weight to Phoebe's phone call?! Is Podcast the reason why the OGBs finally showed up?!

I've wondered the same thing, since Podcast recorded content inside the Spengler farmhouse during the "escort/slowly dying soul" part. Might be how Ray knew to look for Summerville in particular.

I dunno about that. I imagine the marketing budget includes all the flights, hotels, catering, etc. for global promotion the cast and crew does for the junkets and stuff, which there was quite a bit less of. It wouldn't shock me if they kept the marketing budget reasonable as well. It still seems to me that they ran the numbers and agreed to make something that would be profitable just matching 2016's final numbers. You can also offset some of whatever the film needs to make at the box office with the merchandising, just like 2016, and it feels like the toys all did decently, even with supply chain issues.
RichardLess wrote: December 6th, 2021, 3:08 amHonestly? I thought all the press about how Ghostbusters Afterlife beat expectations was pure spin. It was BS. Early forecasting & tracking had GBA doing 40-50 million opening weekend about a month before. I think I even wrote about it on here. Infact I remember reading some people thinking it could higher.

As soon as I heard that Sony was expecting a 25ish million opening I thought it was odd. I read those early tracking reports. If memory serves it had the highest potential as 70 something. Now granted as the release date draws closer more and more data is available to adjust projections but I don’t buy that a single person at Sony was surprised by that opening. Infact I have to wonder if some weren’t just a wee bit disappointed it didn’t crack 50.
I remember you saying $70m, and people saying it was going to do Dune or Shang-Chi numbers, and I thought that was insane. $50m seemed like best-case scenario to me.
devilmanozzy wrote: December 7th, 2021, 12:19 am Overall, the most important thing is if it goes past 150. Because budget being 75 and double that.
mrmichaelt wrote: December 7th, 2021, 2:05 am Hmm, anyone if the sites that report the box office numbers know/predict breakeven for movies, too? I would guess with marketing and all that factored with the $75m, is Afterlife's breakeven around $150m or more closer to $200m?
FYI, current rule of thumb has raised the "in the black" math to 3x the budget, not 2x. 2x was from an era before marketing budgets that matched the production budgets, and more importantly, before stars and filmmakers negotiated back-end deals that cut into the studio's take.

As I recall the 70m was from a tracking article I read about a month out. And I think if this were normal times that would be right on the money. And I will go to my death bed insisting they left money on the table by not putting a “3” in there lol. Again, I know it’s wrong from an artistic standpoint, because this wasn’t GB3. But I think that might’ve pushed em over the 50 edge.

GBA actually outgrossed Dune domestically. Granted it was also on HBO Max. So apples to oranges.

As for the marketing, they had TV, digital ads on YouTube, they had the crazy Times Square ad. They did cinema con, New York comic con. Paul Rudd was doing the talk show circuit. The OGB’s did the Fallon and Meyers show on the same night. With GB2016 they had promotional partners like Papa Johns carrying some of that marketing load. They didn’t really have that here. They were advertising during the World Series and when the NBA/NHL and NFL started up again. I don’t think they spent 150 million but those NFL spots..yikes. They are pricey. ESPN prime time costs a fortune.I don’t know the exact figure, we will soon enough when Deadline does their year end list. But I could see 80 million maybe. But COVID has messed everything up so who knows. You are right tho this wasn’t the big global campaign that the big Disney movies do where they go everywhere.

But I don’t think GBA makes a profit in theatres. Not unless some magic happens in foreign markets. Which is an uphill battle for a “comedy”.

Also, I just realized the passage Podcast reads in Tobin's about Gozer and the underworld syncs up with the Mesopotamian/Sumerian underworld which sorta makes Gozer a stand-in for Ereshkigal.
I really like that they put stuff from different cultures in the movies and comics, l sometimes like to read articles about stuff like that and some of it reminds me of Ghostbusters. I once read something about The Book of Enoch that reminded me of Gozer's Temple, it was about a castle made out of crystal that was surrounded by fire and lighting.

Same. Hasn't even shipped yet, unfortunately :/

I wondered why there wasn’t a thread for this yet!

UK here, mine arrived literally two days ago and I opened it last night. Refuse to believe the sentinel wasn’t intended to have a much bigger role. There are pages and pages of concept art for it / them.

Ah. Yeah, I just thought that it had a very supernatural look to it, almost like it was an exoskeleton or something (tough to describe). Maybe it was just the costume and the lighting. I just remember the detail being pretty impressive.

Edit: Did I seriously use "very supernatural look" to try and describe the look of a supernatural entity? This is what a week of nonstop essay writing will do to a fellow...

I wasn't a complete fan of the new look in the film, but this photo is much better IMO. The coloring is spot on and there's no CGI glowing under the rubber "armor" pieces.

Probably because Titan is based in the UK, so the UK GB fans got it first cuz logistics.

Ohh, now that I think of it Gozer's design in the movie kinda looks like an H.R. Giger drawing.

That's a bummer.

Interview with the film and sound editing team: Dana E. Glauberman, ACE, Nate Orloff, Will Files, and Perry Robertson. Also, a guest appearance from Nate's cat periodically in the interview.

-Busy deleted scene being used in 2nd tag. They were about to take one stem from it but had to build the rest. (26:20-27:10, 27:14-27:23)
--Will Files "We got the actual you know piece of production sound and I was like 'Wow, I feel like I'm mixing the original film for a second here and it was fun to-we had to this we added a bunch of sounds there to sort of try to recreate that moment in the film where there was lots of crowd action and there's police sirens and that sort of thing going on and we first put it all in kind of the way we would mix a modern film and it sounded weird up against this older image and older kind of thinner sounding dialogue so we actually ended up kind of filtering the-all the background sounds that we were adding to make it feel like more like the 80 like literally more like the 84 version as if this was you know a whole chunk of the movie that that had been snipped out and dropped into this one...There was one element that we stole from the original but no other but we couldn't find a piece long enough to do what we were trying to do that makes sense so we had to build it."

-There were hundreds of voice tracks recorded for the Mini-Pufts (28:50-29:05)

-There was more about Callie's backstory that streamlined (39:44-39:56)
--Nate Orloff "So there's originally a lot more about Callie and the backstory and the details and when that gets slowly ironed out and you like massaging bubbles out of a screen protector."
